WHERE AND HOW TO OBTAIN A VISA OTHER THAN IN SINGAPORE?

Respective applicants other than persons residing in Singapore should submit completed applications to the nearest South African diplomatic or consular representative at their respective residing countries. These should be applied at least thirty days prior to their proposed date of departure. Applicants in countries where South Africa is not represented may send their applications directly to the Director General : Home Affairs, Private Bag X114, Pretoria, 0001, Republic of South Africa. Applications may also be transmitted through the airline, shipping company or travel agency arranging the applicant's visit to the Republic. If the request for a visa is approved the visa will be stamped in the passport and the passport returned.


Do I require a visa to enter South Africa?

Nationals of Singapore DO NOT require visas up to 90 days to visit South Africa for commercial business purposes such as exploring commercial or trade possibilities in South Africa, attend business meetings and negotiations or for tourism. May I start a business?

Should the persons residing in Singapore, however, wish to participate in a business, with or without remuneration, whilst sojouring in South Africa, a work permit for self-employment purposes is required. The work permit should be applied from outside of South Africa at the South African High Commission in Singapore. Please note that a person who wishes to register a close corporation or company in South Africa may not do so without being in possession of a work permit for self-employment purposes. Type of visa

Applicants in the following categories are advised to contact the South African High Commission, Singapore to clarify what type of visa they will need should they wish to visit South Africa:

  • Concert performers
  • Stage artists
  • Musicians
  • Religious workers
  • Journalists
  • Photographers
  • Persons connected with the news media.

Persons contemplating entering South Africa:

a) in excess of the relevant exemption period; or
b) with the intention to take up employment/studies; or
c) to participate in any sports event; or
d) to take up permanent residence in the Republic

are still required to obtain the necessary authorisation in order to gain admission to the Republic.

Where the purpose of the visit has relevance to the pursuance of a person's career, for example, clergy who wish to address church meetings, representatives of the media for reporting or academics presenting lectures/participating in research, visas/entry authorisations are still required to enter South Africa.

Visas/entry authorisations are not issued at the South African ports of entry and airline officials are obliged to insist on visas, if required, before allowing passengers to board flights to South Africa.
