20. What is the difference between DR DIET &
common VLCDs in the market?
1.
Is DR DIET considered a high protein diet?
No, because it only contains 12g of protein per serving.
Furthermore, DR DIET uses soy protein, as opposed to milk
/ whey protein found in other products. In fact, the programme
allows additional protein to be consumed and included in
the daily normal meal.
The fundamental difference between DR DIET and other ‘full
fast’ Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD) products is that
DR DIET has a higher level of low level glycemic carbohydrates.
This is because DR DIET is designed as long-term programme,
to be used not only for weight loss and maintenance, but
to enhance general health as well.

2.
Are there any side-effects with long term consumption of
DR DIET?
There are no serious side-effects with long
term consumption of DR DIET. Any unexpected side effects
could be all related to ketosis. However, any ketosis related
side effects would be MILDER, as opposed to other full fast
VLCD products. Thus, DR DIET would be a product of choice
for someone concerned with slimming products-related side
effects as opposed to any other VLCD formulations on the
market.

3.
Is it advisable to consume DR DIET continuously as a meal
replacement for more than 6 months?
Again, the cornerstone of DR DIET is long term consumption,
maybe for life long also. Gradual shift to complete meals
after the desired weight is achieved is recommended. For
maintenance purposes, DR DIET would still be recommended
and would be an excellent choice.

4. Should I exercise when
I am on a DR DIET programme?
Yes. It is essential. Begin with a light exercise
plan. After three to four weeks, you can increase your activity
level.
Light exercise plan
If you have not been exercising at all prior to consuming
DR DIET, consider delaying this plan until you have completed
at least 3 weeks of your DR DIET programme. Start
your exercise routine slowly. Begin with gentle walking,
10 to 20 minutes at a time, gradually increasing the period
of activity.
Existing exercise plan
If you already have an exercise routine in place, cut your
plan during the first weeks on DR DIET. Decrease both time
and intensity of your exercise, then gradually build to
your previous level.
Gradual increase
After three to four weeks, begin increasing your exercise
activities. Listen to your body and be cautious about overdoing
it. Do not push yourself to the extremes.
During
the remainder of your programme, continue to build your
exercise plan, focus more on consistency than on intensity.
Exercise as close to daily as possible, staying at a moderate
level that leaves you energised and requires minimal recovery
from your efforts.

5. Can I consume DR DIET as
a total meal replacement for the first 7 days? What will
happen?
This is not allowed. This would be a deviation from the
protocol. The DR DIET regimen is for 3 sachets and meal/snacks
for long term consumption, with counseling and exercise.
A shift in the buyers commitment is also needed. This commitment
should be long term and the buyer should not mess with any
other diet products on the market, whilst on DR DIET. Also,
the program allows the buyer to shift their total health
commitment. Short term weight loss offered by other VLCD
programs is not the answer.

6. What sort of food and what
quantity of such food am I allowed to consume when in the
DR DIET programme?
These are outlined on the
DR DIET Insert "7-Day Sample Menus".

7.
Can I consume other health supplements such as spirulina,
vitamin C, EPA and other traditional supplements?
Yes, you can. Spirulina,
Vitamin C and EPA behave synergistically with Dr Diet. Dr
Diet and these other supplements complement each other,
and neither their constituent parts, nor their bioavailability,
are identical. Certainly the intent of both Dr Diet
and Spirulina, Vitamin C and EPA is to maintain vitality
and well-being. In combination, a more complete arsenal
of required substances for the enhancement of optimal
health would be available at any given time. While weight
loss certainly involves restructuring the dietary regime,
this "diet duo" would fill the void and not allow
for the absence of compounds that are known to be necessary
at all times, regardless of whether the body is feasting
or fasting. For this reason, taking Spirulina,
Vitamin C and EPA, at the suggested dosage levels, would
ensure better protection for normal metabolic activity during
the time of weight loss.
As far
as other Vitamins and Minerals, these would not be recommended,
as Dr Diet contains a complete array of micronutrients.

Will consuming DR DIET affect my chances if I am trying
to get pregnant?
No. There is no scientific proof to back this. However,
pregnant or breast-feeding women should avoid following
the DR DIET programme, as the hydration level and nutrient
intake may be inadequate. If you suspect that you are pregnant,
check with your doctor immediately and discontinue the DR
DIET programme.

the programme rigid and challenging.

On a weight loss programme like DR DIET, your body requires
extra fluids to eliminate the by products of fat metabolism.

18. How is DR DIET different from
other VLCD's on the market?
First
of all DR DIET is a modified VLCD. Some products encourage
you to undertake a complete or full fast VLCD program, at
least initially. No meals are allowed. In North America,
full fast VLCD products are to be taken under strict medical
supervision, but in Asia, there are no such requirements.
Since the marketplace demands that a meal be taken when
on supplements, therefore the competitor products are selling
full fast VLCD products with a meal, eve though their formulations
were designed for a full fast program in the first place.
The Malaysian and other agencies are somehow allowing a
full fast VLCD formulation to be taken over the counter,
without any medical supervision and with a meal. This is
against the law in United States or Canada.
The
US has strict laws for VLCD products which have to be prescribed
by a physician. If the Malaysian and other regulatory agencies
follows the US example, then the so called full fast VLCD
products in the marketplace should be only allowed to be
sold under a licensed physician.
VLCD's
restrict calorie intake. Thus the level of protein, carbohydrates
and fat that one eats or are already present in ones body,
affects how any food intake fuels one's body.
The
liver converts foods (protein, carbohydrates and fat) into
chemicals the body tissues needs for energy as follows:
- carbohydrates are converted into simple sugars (glucose)
- excess protein is converted into glucose as well
- fats are converted into ketone bodies
The amount of ketone bodies depends on how much glucose
is available. If on a full fast diet or on a low carbohydrate
diet, large amounts of ketone bodies will be present, to
compensate for the lack of carbohydrates. The accumulation
of ketone bodies in the bloodstream is termed ketosis.
One
tissue that cannot use ketone bodies as fuel is the brain.
The brain needs certain amount of carbohydrates per day
to function properly - about 150 grams per day. Another
tissue that cannot use ketones very well are the muscles.
Thus, for the need to supplement VLCD's with the choice
amount of protein.
Therefore,
a low carbohydrate diet is UNBALANCED, with undesirable
effects of ketosis.
Since
the risks associated with full fast VLCD programmes are
very high, if not taken under medical supervision, the US
and Canadian health regulatory agencies have classified
these as "Medical Foods", to be strictly administered
by a licensed health care practitioner.
In
addition, DR DIET contains soy protein isolate and other
functional ingredients, which no other modified VLCD product
can claim as part of the formulation.
