SOAS Alumni (Singapore) Reunion at the Sakers (March 1999)

We had a great SOAS Alumni (Singapore) Reunion gathering on 13 March 1999 at the Sakers'. Eighteen persons including the Sakers (hosts),were there. Our heartfelt thanks to Neil and Binney Saker for offering their beautiful home, (which was reminscent of a part of the British Museum) for the gathering. Also thanks to all who turned up. For those who didn't make it last week, we hope to see you all at our next gathering (please visit this page for regular updates).

Those present were Alicia Seow and friend, Brian Hansford, Charles Chan, Desmond and Rudo Supple, Elaine Ee, Faye Chan, Gerald Yip, Kenneth Wilson, Larissa Tan and friend, Leonard Ho and wife Karen, Neil & Binney Saker (hosts), Stuart Pallister and Toh Han Shih (a few members apologised for their absence promised to make it at the next gathering) - see photos below:

The evening almost seemed an evening with the media people as various SOAS alumni work are currently working with organizations such as CNBC Asia, Reuters and Singapore Business Times. Some alumni present graduated in the 1980s while a few in the 1990s. Nonetheless everyone enjoyed talking about good times at SOAS, work, events taking place in Asia and things to come.

Binney and Neil provided most of the food and beverages (Thanks for the wine and sushi!). In future, the rest of us will share the costs. So we hope to start  a small committe soon, which among other things, will also organise the collection of membership funds, for future SOAS events. This evening at the Sakers' is a good start to getting ourselves more organised.

The next SOAS Alumni Gathering: We are looking forward to the next SOAS gathering hopefully in October 1999. Members, please let us know if you  know a great place to meet, your residence or a great pub or something like that. Please submit any suggestions by email to any of the following persons:
