This country is one
of diverse cultures and
traditions. The majority of
the population constitute of
Chinese, Malay and Indian immigrants
originally from their respective countries.
The integration of
cultures resulted in
an assorted selection of
food; not to mention the varied
languages spoken nationwide. Most
commonly spoken is English or rather,
Singlish - Singapore's very own English
"mixed" with a tinge of Chinese, Malay and
Indian language. The local slang is very distinct.
Relatively
young,
Singapore,
less than
half a
century
old, has
developed
and industralized
at a tremendous
pace. Already,
Singapore has been voted the best international seaport and airport. Singapore also takes credit for the invention of the sound card ("Soundblaster"). Located slightly above the equator, Singapore experiences rain or shine mostly. So if there's no downpour, you can expect to get a lovely tan! Not only that! Singapore is a shoppers' paradise. `Shop till you drop', they say and I can tell you, there is much truth in that. Shops open till late into the night and the nightlife here is pretty happening!
Singapore - The Garden City, despite being so developed, still preserves nature. There is not a single spot in Singapore where a tree can be out of sight! The Garden City lives!
