Teaching Staff

 

Khoong Shok Meng, currently pursuing her Master in Music Education  at the National Institute of Education, Singapore.  She was active in piano accompaniment for solo voices and choirs before she left Singapore to pursue a music degree at the University of Oregon, U.S.A in 1982.

She graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor degree in Music in 1985.  She studied Piano Performance under the supervision of Dr. Dean Gramer and Professor Victor Steinhadt; Piano Pedagogy with Ms. Doris Allen and Composition with Dr. Harriot Owen.

 

In 1984, Shok Meng was awarded the prestigious Dean's List and gained recognition in the outstanding piano performance by the Phi Delta Chapter of the Phi Beta in a piano competition organized by the University.

 

During her stint in the United States, Shok Meng was active in solo performances and was a regular accompanist for solo voices in the University.  Her solo recital in the final year of study was indeed well received.

 

Upon her returned to Singapore 1985, Shok Meng continued her advanced study of music theory with Mr. David Gatehouse, an examiner with The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London.

 

With her devotion to music, Shok Meng regularly conducts piano theory workshop, clinics for advance students and teachers in Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong; and has performed at several two-piano recitals.

 

In 1996, she was awarded "best Song Writer" in a competition organized by the Hua Xia Philharmonic Society, Lianhe Zhao Bao and Radio 95.8

 

She attained AMUSTCL (Associate in Music of Trinity College of London) in 1998; and LMUSTCL (Licentiate in Musical Theory, Criticism and Literature) in 1999.

 

Shok Meng has been performing at charity concerts for Canossaville Childrens' Home, Ren Ci Hospital, Assisi Home & Hospice and Chung Hwa Hospital.
