"Rochor Morning Market" by Lim Tzer Peng, 67 x 67cm, Ink & Colour, 1979

Lim Tze Peng (b. 1923) is a self-taught artist. The only formal art training he had was drawing classes he attended in his secondary school days. He admires Cezanne for his control of colours and form, Miro for the calligraphic quality of his paintings, Chagall for his distortions. Amongst Chinese painters he is indebted to Huang Binhong and Ch'i Pai-Shih. Most probably his own distinctive style is an amalgam of all these influences. Tze Peng follows no "ism" and expresses himself in the only way he knows - with sincerity and honesty and a great love for his subject matter. His work was exhibited in Britain, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and France.
