System Overview
The GPS and the DataTAC network play a big part in the project. This vehicle tracking system relies on the GPS (Global Positioning System) to provide the longitude and the latitude of the vehicle. The Base-Station can pinpoint the exact location of the vehicle on the map using the coordinates from the GPS receiver transmitted from the mobile unit via the DataTAC Network. If this device is fixed on a specific vehicle, it can be used to track the vehicle. Wireless modems making use of the DataTAC network is used for communicating between the Base (Monitoring) Station and mobile units in the system. The mobile unit can be a navigation device or a palmtop equipped with wireless modem and GPS receivers.
