The Word

Matthew 5:9, 43-46,48

"Blessed are the peacemakers: they shall be recognised as children of God."

You have heard how it was said, You will love your neighbour and hate your enemy. But I say this to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you; so that you may be children of your Father in heaven, for he causes his sun to rise on the bad as well as the good, and sends down rain to fall on the upright and the wicked alike.
" You must therefore set no bounds to your love, just as your heavenly Father sets none to His. "

Living the Word

To Corrymeela( "Hill of Harmony" in Gaelic ), a community of reconciliation, Mother Teresa was invited in July 1981. The meeting was held in a large tent overlooking the sea fifty miles north of Belfast.
Mother Teresa came into contact with people on both sides of the conflict in Northern Ireland. She was in the midst of people mourning men, women and children who had been cut down in nearly 10 years of sporadic violence. Some had family members in prison. The violence, sparked by the 1972 Bloody Sunday when soldiers killed thirteen unarmed civil rights demonstrators, was a long-term effect of the unhealed wound of the partition of the island nation. She talked in goespel terms of love and forgiveness.

Mairead Corrigan, who had shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Betty Williams, wrote, " Mother Teresa said nothing I had not heard before or read from the gospels, but she brings the whole thing to life. I think what makes Mother Teresa's words so effective is that she is living out her words in her life."

Words of Mother Teresa

"To forgive out of love, to forget out of humility"

In His passion Jesus taught us how to forgive out of love, how to forget out of humility. So let us examine our hearts and see if there is any unforgiven hurt - any unforgotten bitterness! The quickest and surest way is the " tongue"- use it for the good of others. If you think well of others, you will also speak well of others and to others. From the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. If your heart is full of love you will speak of love. If you forgive others the wrong they have done, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others, then the wrongs you have done will not be forgiven by your father. It is easy to love those who are far away. It isn't always easy to love those who are right next to us.
