If you need a decent place to stay in - decent price with carpark!! - in San Francisco, check out Cow Hollow Motor Inn. USD108 for Fri and Sat, and USD96 for Sun. Incls parking which is really great for San Fran. One really needs to drive in San Francisco unless you are Arnold Schwarzenegger can walk those 40% slopes up and down. Driving will be great fun for the kids (as well as the driver) as it's like going in a roller coaster. The crookedest part of Lombard street is not as fun as one end of Chesnut Street (the start) where you don't see the road ahead at all at one point!
Right across the street is Mel's Kitchen - try breakfast there. The Egg Benedict is good. For dinner go to Eliza's in California Street near by. Don't care what some guide books say that its not authentic (what do they know, they are not Chinese), Eliza's ambience is nice (yes not really Chinese more avant garde) but the food is Chinese and delicious! The free flow of rice is so welcoming if you've been going American or Mexican for some time in your trip).
