THINKING ROOM

Welcome one and all to the latest addition to the ever expanding fold of the Temple. In here you'll find points to ponder, quirky deliberations, and other oddities. Some are the products of an over active imagination while most are procured from other members of The Inner Circle. Feel free to submit some of your own works to me and they will be duly added in. Hope you enjoy what is to follow.

We have taller buildings, but shorter tempers;

Wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints;
We spend more, but have less;
We buy more, but enjoy it less.

We have bigger houses and smaller families;

More conveniences, but less time;
We have more degrees, but less sense;
More knowledge, but less judgement;
More experts, but more problems;
More medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much,

Smoke too much,
Spend too recklessly,
Laugh too little,
Drive too fast,
Get too angry too quickly,
Stay up too late,
Get up too tired,
Read too little,
Watch TV too much,
And pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values.

We talk too much, love too little and lie too often.
We've learned how to make a living, but not a life;
We've added years to life, not life to years.

We've been all the way to the moon and back,

But have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbor.

We've conquered outer space, but not inner space;

We've done larger things, but not better things;
We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul;
We've split the atom, but not our prejudice;
We write more, but learn less;
Plan more, but accomplish less.

We've learned to rush, but not to wait;

We have higher incomes; but lower morals;
More food but less appeasement;

We build more computers to hold more information,

To produce more copies than ever, but have less communication;
We've become long on quantity, but short on quality.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion;

Tall men, and short character;
Steep profits, and shallow relationships.

These are the times of world peace, but domestic warfare;

More leisure and less fun;
More kinds of food, but less nutrition.

These are days of two incomes, but more divorce;

Of fancier houses, but broken homes.

These are days of quick trips,

Disposable diapers,
Throwaway morality,
One-night stands,
Overweight bodies,
And pills that do everything from cheer,
To quiet,
To kill.

It is a time when there is much in the show window

And nothing in the stockroom.

"If you would like to know the value of money, go and try to borrow some."

"To get profit without risk, experience without danger and reward without work, is as impossible as it is to live without being born."

In the fall when you see geese heading south for the winter flying along in the "V" formation, you might be interested in knowing what science has discovered about why they fly that way. It has been learned that as each bird flaps its wings, it creates an uplift for the bird immediately following. By flying in a "V" formation, the whole flock adds at least 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew on its own.

PEOPLE WHO ARE PART OF A TEAM AND SHARE A COMMON DIRECTION GET WHERE THEY ARE GOING QUICKER AND EASIER, BECAUSE THEY ARE TRAVELING ON THE TRUST OF ONE ANOTHER.

Whenever a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to go through it alone and quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the power of the flock.

IF WE HAVE AS MUCH SENSE AS A GOOSE, WE WILL SHARE INFORMATION WITH THOSE WHO ARE HEADED THE SAME WAY WE ARE GOING.

When the lead goose gets tired, he rotates back in the wing and another goose takes over.

IT PAYS TO SHARE LEADERSHIP AND TAKE TURNS DOING HARD JOBS.

The geese honk from behind to encourage those up front to keep their speed.

WORDS OF SUPPORT AND INSPIRATION HELP ENERGIZE THOSE ON THE FRONT LINE, HELPING THEM TO KEEP PACE IN SPITE OF THE DAY-TO-DAY PRESSURES AND FATIGUE.

Finally, when a goose gets sick or is wounded by a gunshot and falls out, two geese fall out of the formation and follow the injured one down to help and protect him. They stay with him until he is either able to fly or until he is dead, and then they launch out with another formation to catch up with their group.

IF WE HAVE THE SENSE OF A GOOSE, WE WILL STAND BY EACH OTHER WHEN THINGS GET ROUGH.

The next time you see a formation of geese, remember... IT IS A REWARD, A CHALLENGE AND A PRIVILEGE to be a contributing member of a TEAM.

Economists use statistics much like a drunkard uses a lamp-post - for support rather than for illumination.

The only Christian doctrine for which we have empirical evidence is the doctrine of original sin.

Once upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge, and all of the others including Love. One day it was announced to the feelings that the island would sink, so all repaired their boats and left. Love was the only one who stayed. Love wanted to persevere until the last possible moment. When the island was almost sinking, Love decided to ask for help.

Richness was passing by Love in a grand boat. Love said, "Richness, can you take me with you?" Richness answered, "No, I can't. There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat. There is no place here for you."

Love decided to ask Vanity who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel, "Vanity, please help me!" "I can't help you Love. You are all wet and might damage my boat," Vanity answered.

Sadness was close by so Love asked for help, "Sadness, let me go with you." "Oh... Love, I am so sad that I need to be by myself!"

Happiness passed by Love too, but she was so happy that she did not even hear when Love called her!

Suddenly, there was a voice, "Come Love, I will take you." It was an elder. Love felt so blessed and overjoyed that he even forgot to ask the elder her name. When they arrived at dry land, the elder went her own way.

Love realising how much he owed the elder, he went to Knowledge and asked, "Do you know who was it who helped me?"

It was Time," Knowledge answered.

"Time?" asked Love. "But why did Time help me?"

Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and answered, "Because only Time is capable of understanding how great Love is."

Failure doesn't mean you are a failure;

It means you have not yet succeeded.

Failure doesn't mean you accomplished nothing,

It means you have learned something.

Failure doesn't mean that you have been a fool.

It means you had a lot of faith.

Failure doesn't mean you've been disgraced.

It means you were willing to try.

Failure doesn't mean you don't have it.

It means you have to do something in a different way

Failure doesn't mean you are inferior.

It means you are not perfect.

Failure doesn't mean you've wasted your life.

It means you have a reason to start afresh

Failure doesn't mean you should give up.

It means you must try harder

Failure doesn't mean you'll never make it.

It means it will take a little longer.
