Curved Air

THE POEM I SUBMITTED TO CAPITOL RADIO

(This pure bit of self indulgence, is the poem I submitted to Capitol Radio in 1976, in response to Sonja's competition to win a "Curved Air kite", for submitting a poem starting with the words "The drought has made our capital dry".  I received a Curved Air kite for my effort, as no doubt did many other entrants. To set the scene, 1976 was the hottest summer on record in the UK for many years. I used the titles and some of the content of the songs on their then just released album, "Airborne", to form most of the phrases in my submission.)

The drought has made our capital dry,

The air is still so kites can't fly,

The people hot and bothered as the sun beats down,

Take a touch of tequila, their discomfort to drown.

Desiree waits for a Mediterranean breeze, and the

Broken Lady's sparrows take refuge in the trees.

One sweet aspect is the honeysuckle and hay,

But at night in the moonshine, we realise,

That heaven, never seemed so far away.

What we need now, is a to rainbow show,

That without Curved Air,

Rain can't fall so plants can't grow.

The above is based on recollection of nearly 30 years ago, but I am sure it is quite accurate.
