I am only 14, but the Carpenters have helped me through many hard times, and I know as I get older they will help me some more. The death of Karen was tragic, but we must take peace in knowing that even though Karen had some hard times here on earth, I am sure that up in Heaven, God has given Karen everything she so desperatly wanted; a loving husband, children, and a white picket fence. | Comments: Thanks for the page. I'm surprised that there aren't more pages devoted to the Carpenters. I recently saw a dreadful re-enactment of their story, complete with really inadequate actors. Do you know of any way to order tapes of the PBS special or other high-quality Carpenters specials? I'm particularly interested in finding tapes of one or more of their highly publicized television specials from those crazy '70s. Oddly, Karen is somewhat like Princess Diana, inasmuch as she evokes, in me anyway, the same type of happy, smiley feelings, comingled with a deep sadness that she is no longer here. I'd twelve years old and the song responsible for the beginning of my admiration was just "Only Yesterday". In 1977, my collection was completely and in 1994 I began to collect again all CDs. Talk about "Carpenters" is very grateful to me. Richard and Karen Carpenter are a treasure, a beautiful treasure that I have in my life. I can't imagine how it could be if they didn't come in my way... Maybe it'll be empty of signification... I can't really imagine... I really love them... However, I feel sadness because my vocabulary is poor enough to express all my senses in their true signification... Karen is the most beautiful voice in the world. I really miss her with all my heart. Here in Brazil, we didn’t have a lot of material about them and so all the things that I have I obtained with a lot of perseverance. One of my oldest dreams that unfortunately can’t come true yet is get copies of all five specials for TV, but I didn’t lost my hopes... | Comments: I first remember hearing the Carpenters back in 1975 - maybe before, but that's when I was hooked. My parents now chuckle how I played their albums over and over. In fact, I wore out my first "Singles" album, and replaced it with another. When I was married in 1980, the music was mostly from a Carpenter's songbook, but the soloist sang "For All We Know" as we were leaving the altar. Most people I know are not Carpenter's fans, but I will always be one because of their beautiful blending of harmonies, and Karen's unforgettable voice. | What can you say about a voice like Karens, she had a special quality and feeling when she sang her songs, they really meant something. | In hindsite, I had the priviledge of going to high school and graduating with Karen. We were class mates at Downey Senior High School during the class of 67. I didn't know her very well during high school and I actually lived just a street away from the Carpenter family in Downey. The Carpenter's were "with" me when I first fell in love and have been a significant part of my life ever since their first song was released. I owe much happiness to Karen and Richard for their art. Leafing through old yearbooks and seeing pictures of Karen in the choir and band is surreal and brings back fond memories. Karen indeed sang as an angel while here on this earth and no doubt is playing her god given instrument for HIM. | |

I had the same eating problems she had. I started my battle in 1981 through 1986. There are times that I can feel myself wanting to go back to that way of thinking but I have learned how to control those feelings. I really did look up to Karen. | This is a very well done Carpenters page. Listening to the MIDI's while browsing is a neat touch. I know it's just March but it would be fun to hear "Merry Christmas Darling" or another of their Christmas songs. Speaking of Christmas, I have seen on several Carpenters sights that the two Christmas albums are now both together on a double CD which finally means that the cuts that didn't make the "Special Edition" CD will finally be on CD. BUT!,isn't this new (1996) set only an import? Also, isn't there a Carpenters special on E!TV in April? | |

| Karen had such a special voice, there never will be an equal to it. The best years of my life were surrounded by her music in the early 70's. Sad to say it's very hard to find any radio stations in my area playing her music anymore. There is no one that has stepped up and tried to sing like she sang, how could anyone even come close. | |

| Hello, I visited your page, trying to find the official lyrics from "You're The One". I haven't read through all of your sub-pages yet, so I hope to find them somewhere. If you have these lyrics at hand, would you mind mailing them to me? I have been a Carpenters' fan for a long time. I discovered them when I saw the film about Karen's life. After that I started buying all their cd's and listened to them for months on end. By now, I'm not listening to their music that often, but I always like hearing a song by them. Karen had an amazing voice! I wrote to Richard and to Evelyn Wallace sometimes. I sent Richard a tape with Beatles-bootlegs, knowing he would be interested in hearing them. He wrote me a thank you-note and asked for more bootlegs! Can you imagine?! That was nice! I need the lyrics from You're The One as I have selected this song to play at a wedding ceremony from a friend, on May 30, 1997. Me and a friend will perform this song for the wedding couple. I hope to find the lyrics because we will start rehearsing very soon. Another question: do you know how Richard and his family and Evelyn Wallace are doing at the moment? Are they in good health? | Tony, I'm glad to sign in. As a reminder, I was a neighbor to the Carpenter family when they first moved to Downey. They were living at the Shoji Apartments in the middle sixties having two adjoining units. Karen was still in high school then being about fifteen or sixteen then. They have always been very well liked on a personal level here. Of course, Richard still has his home here with his wife and children. They frequented Foxy's restaurant for breakfast then. Foxy's is still there where our amateur radio club meets on Saturday mornings. I have NEVER heard an unkind word from anyone about them. | |
