Cactus Pads can be dished on the table and rather tasty if you don't mind the slippery taste like Okra (lady's fingers). However, this is restricted to Opuntia species as other species may be toxic.

Two portions of the Opuntia species can be eaten, the pads (also known as Nopalitos) and the prickly pear (known as Tuna). The pads are the vegetable whereas the prickly pear is fruit. Some Opuntia species have less spines than others. which make it easier to prepare and some contains less mucilage, making them more favourable. Generally, young Opuntia pads will contain less mucilage.
