Common and easy to grow cacti can be brought from local florists or garden centres. Price range from S$2.50 to more than S$30.00 depending on the size, package and species.

Choosing cactus is fun and enjoying. The more the species there are, the more blur you will be in deciding which to get. Fortunately, different species will catch different people's attention.

Here are some of the guidelines in getting healthy and strong cactus home :

¤ Check that the spines are strong and evenly distributed
¤ Get those that have buds if you enjoy flowers
¤ Larger cactus is stronger than smaller ones
¤ Look out for those having offspring/basal shoots (some of the species doesn't have)

What to avoid :

¤ Avoid tired and dull looking cactus
¤ Avoid those with artificial composite
¤ Avoid those with glued color stones at the plant's base
¤ Avoid those with scale insects

However, if you have the confidence in getting the plant back to its health, any choices you make will be fine.
