
Besides buildings exhibiting interesting mathematical properties, everyday objects may also surprisingly show very interesting mathematical concepts. Below are a few objects we found in our homes that we often take for granted.

The above two photographs show a showerhead in one of the group member's bathroom. When one examines the photograph on the right, one may be surprised to find that the water outlets when connected form a nonagon. What is so interesting about this is that this is the only other example of a nine-sided polygon that we managed to find.
![]() | Another object that exhibits a mathematically interesting concept is the non-slip mat in the bathroom, as seen in the photograph on the left. What is interesting is that it exhibits an Archimedian tiling, specifically the (4, 82) tiling. |
| The scan on the right is that of a washi paper design, or Japanese paper design. It is a very intriguing pattern as it is a combination of two different Platonic tilings; namely the hexagonal Platonic tiling and the triangular Platonic tiling. | ![]() |
