Chao Mugger - Singaporean slang term. 'Chao' means 'stinking'; 'mugger' is one who studies far too hard.

Charlotte Brontë at the Victorian Literature Web    [off Chao Mugger]
Wow. This is a Singaporean mirror of the US Brown Victorian Web, comprising literally hundreds of critical essays written by Brown students and faculty. Of course, a lot more is discussed than just Brontë! Highly recommended.

Joyce Carol Oates on Jane Eyre    [off Chao Mugger]
By writer (and Princeton professor!) Joyce Carol Oates. Well-written, and fun -- brings in historical feminist highlights. By the way, I love the horrible cartoon of Rochester kissing Jane!

Charlotte's Web    [off Chao Mugger]
This site is really more about Charlotte Brontë herself than Jane Eyre. It contains samples of her prose juvenilia, though, which I've never seen anywhere else. Also has extensive links to other sites.

Brontė Sisters    [off Chao Mugger]
A long page, with loads of links about all 3 sisters and their work. Fun if you're interested in everything about the Brontës themselves, but the academically useful links are already on this page.

Shall I mail you when there are new essays?

This site most desperately needs new essays, especially some by the J1s and J2s it's for! Contributions dealing with these texts are very welcome indeed.
