Postage Stamps

Definitive Stamps
Stamps printed to meet normal postage use. Available in the full range of postage values (cents and dollar denominations).

Commemorative Stamps
Stamps issued to mark significant national or international events relevant to Singapore.

Special Stamps
Stamps depicting interesting subjects such as flora, fauna, history, culture or scenes.

Miniature Sheet
A printed sheet containing the full set of the stamps of a particular issue, with a border design.

Used Stamps
Stamps which are postmarked or cancelled to show they have been used.

Cancelled-To-Order (CTO) Stamps
This refers to stamps which have been cancelled with a special commemorative postmark or a postmark which incorporate the words "Philatelic Bureau" where the stamps are cancelled on request and returned over the counter.

Mint Stamps
Stamps in the same condition as when they were purchased from the post office, with adhesive gum intact and without any cancellation.

A Block of Stamp
Adjoining stamps from at least two adjacent rows and columns. The smallest block comprises four stamps.

Gutter Pair
A pair of stamps with space in between to allow for separation or perforation.

Se-tenant Stamps
Adjoining stamps with different design or values. Originate from a French term meaning "joined together".

Overprint
An additional printing on the face of a stamp, achieved through machine print or a hand-stamp.

Color Dabs
Colors printed on stamp sheet margins indicating the colors used for printing. Also known as color checks or traffic lights.
