Photography has become an integral part of my travelling. I don't leave home without my Nikon F70, Tokina 28-70 mm lens, Sigma 70-300 mm zoom, Cokin filters and Kodak Gold films in abundance.
I guess taking photos is how I document my journeys. It is a great way to capture all the special moments one encounter on the road. Though nothing beats being there and seeing with your own eyes, there is a limit to how much the mind can retain. Photography, in a way, helps one to re-live the experiences.
In my past 5 yrs of travelling, I've taken no less than 6000 shots. OK, I admit I do get carried away sometimes, especially when 'confronted' with awesome sights...I used up an entire roll just shooting the Library of Celsius in Ephesus, Turkey. However, most of the time, I find myself experimenting with different shots using varying angles, elevations, exposures etc. The possibilities to present each subject seem endless to me. This forms part of my learning process and I've come a long way through trial and error. I've also learned much from the great painters (eg Monet, Manet, Renoir) with all the museum trips. Through their paintings, I am able to appreciate the importance of a balanced composition.
There are so much more to discover in the world of photography. For me, this is merely the beginning.
